From Delhi to Noto
Growing up in Delhi, Mehak was surrounded by the energy of a vibrant city and the living traditions of yoga. After training in authentic yoga at the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, it was Japan that called her next.
On a full MEXT scholarship from the Japanese government, she came to study Education for Sustainable Development at Yamagata University. That was the first step that changed the entire course of her life.
Her time at Yamagata University was meant to last just 18 months. But meeting Mark — now her husband — changed that plan, and the entire course of her life. Choosing to stay longer in Japan, what she truly fell in love with was onsen, zen, and shizen — hot springs, stillness, and nature.
That one decision led to many more: from Yamagata to Ishikawa, from Nanao to Nakanoto, through the pandemic and the Noto Peninsula earthquake. Ten years later, here she is at The Awarenest — living a dream she had once seen, without ever knowing where it would finally come true.
